Half the World's Languages Will Be Gone by 2100
Of the approximately 7,000 languages spoken today, linguists estimate that around 3,500 will disappear within this century — roughly one language dying every two weeks. Most are indigenous languages with no written form and only a handful of elderly speakers. When a language dies, a unique way of categorising reality — its grammar, metaphors, and vocabulary — dies with it.
