Jackson Pollock's drip paintings reveal mathematical fractal patterns

Physicist Richard Taylor discovered in 1999 that the apparently chaotic drips and splatters in Pollock's work contain fractal patterns — repeating geometric structures found in nature like coastlines and trees. Pollock's fractal dimension increased as his technique evolved, and viewers consistently prefer the complexity level he reached in the early 1950s. Art critics called the paintings chaotic; mathematics calls them precise.
