A batter in cricket or baseball has under 200 milliseconds to decide to play a shot

A fast bowler or pitcher can deliver a ball at over 90mph. It reaches the batter in roughly 400-450 milliseconds. The human brain takes about 200ms just to process a visual stimulus and send a motor response — meaning the batter must begin their decision before they have fully 'seen' the ball. Elite batters predict trajectory from the bowler's body mechanics before release.
