Shakespeare is credited with inventing over 1,700 words we still use today

Words like 'lonely', 'bedroom', 'fashionable', 'negotiate', and 'advertising' all appear for the first time in Shakespeare's works. Scholars debate whether he coined them or was the first to write them down, but the sheer count is staggering. English would be a measurably smaller language without him.
