The 1966 World Cup trophy was stolen and found by a dog called Pickles

Four months before the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England, the Jules Rimet trophy was stolen from a stamp exhibition at Westminster Central Hall, London, where it had been displayed. Scotland Yard launched a nationwide search. One week later, a black and white mongrel called Pickles was being walked by his owner Dave Corbett in Norwood, South London, when he sniffed out a package wrapped in newspaper under a hedge — the trophy, barely damaged. Corbett received a £6,000 reward; Pickles became a national celebrity and starred in a film. England won the tournament; the trophy was kept in a bank vault for the rest of the competition.
