Usain Bolt's 100m world record took just 41 strides

When Usain Bolt ran 9.58 seconds at the 2009 Berlin World Championships — the current 100m world record — he took just 41 strides. His average stride length was 2.44 metres. At peak speed between 60 and 80 metres, he was running at 44.72 km/h (27.8 mph) and his contact time with the ground per step was approximately 85 milliseconds. Bolt won despite a slow reaction time off the blocks (0.146 seconds, well behind his rivals); his later acceleration phase was so dominant that he was still accelerating when competitors were already decelerating.
