Black holes don't suck — they pull like any other mass
A common misconception is that black holes vacuum up everything around them. In fact, if our Sun were magically replaced with a black hole of the same mass, Earth's orbit would be completely unchanged — we would simply lose our light source. The difference is that a black hole compresses its mass into a singularity so dense that within its event horizon, escape velocity exceeds the speed of light. Beyond the event horizon, nothing unusual happens; inside it, all paths lead to the singularity. Stellar black holes are typically stellar-mass objects; supermassive black holes at galactic centres can contain billions of solar masses.
